What changed in 2026
Suppressors just got a lot easier
The $200 tax stamp went to $0 in January. Then an August 2026 federal court ruling let eligible suppressor sales skip the Form 4 entirely.

Eligible suppressor sales now go through a Form 4473 and a background check, the same paperwork as a rifle or pistol.
No months-long wait
No fingerprint cards, passport photos or waiting on ATF. Once your background check clears, you can take it home.

Prefer to register it? The Form 4 route is still available, and the $200 tax stamp has been $0 since January 1, 2026.

On an eligible sale, buying a suppressor now works like any other gun purchase.

Tell us what you shoot. We'll match a suppressor to your caliber, host gun and how you plan to use it.

Fill out a 4473
The same form you fill out for any gun purchase. Bring a valid government-issued photo ID.

Background check
We run the standard federal background check at the counter, just like a rifle sale.

Take it home
Once the check comes back proceed, you pay and walk out with your suppressor.

A suppressor won't make a rifle movie-quiet, but it takes the edge off the blast and recoil. That makes practice more comfortable, helps newer shooters, and is easier on everyone in the blind or the stand.

Suppressor questions
Do I still need a Form 4 to buy a suppressor?
Not for eligible sales. Since a federal court ruling took effect on August 13, 2026, eligible suppressor sales can go through a Form 4473 and a background check, the same as a rifle. Ask us which suppressors qualify. The Form 4 route is still available if you prefer it, and the tax stamp is $0.
Can I take it home the same day?
On an eligible 4473 sale, yes. Once your background check comes back proceed, you pay and take it with you. There's no months-long ATF wait.
How old do I have to be to buy a suppressor?
21 to buy a suppressor from a dealer, and you'll need a valid government-issued photo ID.
Can I hunt with a suppressor in Louisiana?
Yes. Louisiana allows hunting with a legally owned suppressor. Check the current LDWF regulations before your season.
Can I travel out of state with it?
If you buy on a 4473, plan to keep it in Louisiana for now. Taking it to other states is a gray area while the court case plays out. If you travel with it often, ask us about the Form 4 route instead.
Is this permanent?
It comes from a court ruling, not a new law, so it could still change on appeal. We'll tell you where things stand when you buy.
